The relationship of your soul to heaven is like a child with his first telescope. When he gets it, he sets it up and looks out. Far away in the distance he sees a beautiful island. Even though it is far away, the optics are so fine that he can see even the faintest detail. He can see dew drops on the palm leaves in the morning and wisps of fog dancing out over the water when the sun begins to show his power. He can even see the fibers on the meat of a coconut when its shell is broken making contact with mother earth. As time goes on, the dust and soot in the atmosphere and changes in the weather cause a film to develop over the glass in the telescope. At first it only blots out the fine detail. You can still see the beauty of the island. As more time goes by, however, the glass gets even dirtier, and soon you can just barely see the outline. Even later, the glass becomes completely darkened and no light can get through. When this happens the child is totally blind to the island and soon forgets all memory he had of it. So it is with those of this world who do not keep their view of Heaven unencumbered by obstructions. Soon they are totally blind to it and loose all memory and sense of the beautiful place. When they reach this level, they do not even believe it exists, and they think others who do believe are fools. Hence we have the saying, For those who have eyes, let them see. |
